Salt & Light pt. 3

Lets keep walking, Mathew 5:14-16

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

In the Navy we have this thing called Taps. At night the announcement over the 1MC was “taps, taps lights out maintain silence among the decks.” At this time we are to not make excess noise and we turn off all unnecessary lights. The lights that do stay on are red/amber in color.

This was to not be detectable. See at night the clear cool weather helped sound and light travel. For anyone who has hunted in the fall or early winter knows that in the morning something that sounds like it’s next to you could actually be several feet away. And the white lights can travel from 10-20 miles if not further however red/amber has about a 5-6 mile range.

If something isn’t clicking yet for you I’m not sure what to say. But yes this was me my light with certain people can be seen for miles and miles and for others you would be lucky to see it if I was standing right in front of you.

Like with the salt, being the light would make me noticeable. I would be the city on a hilltop I would be able to be seen. With that I would then have a chance on losing friends or family and at the time I held that higher than I did my walk.
