I guess if you clicked on this I either got your attention in my last post or like me you just clicked on something and read it. Either way I’m glad you did and let’s discuss Mathew 5:13 and how it convicted me and changed me to the man I am today.
“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.”
What is salt and what is it used for?
According to Merriam Webster salt is “A crystalline compound NaCl that consists of sodium chloride, is abundant in nature, and is used especially to season or preserve food or in industry.”
According to the internet which we all know is true salt is used for seasoning bland food, preserving meat, agriculture, medicine and so much more. It is said we as Americans use over 40 million tons of salt in one year and that not just in food. Actually salt in food is less than 10% of the total use. When Im gone it will be less than 5% because I’m sure I use 5% of the salt by myself.
So I know that doesn’t answer your question about how did me not being the salt bring me under conviction?. That’s the reason you are here so let’s do what I do. Let’s walk further down this path.
See in my mind being the salt is having the flavor of Jesus, preserving his message, and purify those around me with the truth. As you saw in part 1 that was not always me.
We all know what salt tastes like well take a tablespoon of salt and a glass of water and it’s very salty however tablespoon of salt in a 5 gallon bucket you would never know the difference.
Even though I was saved and 25% a good Christian(yes I’m giving my self pity points) I knew I was no good. I deserved to be thrown out and trampled on. I was not setting a good example for my son and I was not living out what Jesus had planned for me.
I was a swimming pool of water and only had a tablespoon of salt and only a few knew it existed.
The way I saw it I couldn’t be the salt all the time. In order to purify or preserve I would have to talk about it and if I talk about it other people would look at me different and I didn’t want that. I didn’t want to be known as a Christian or Bible thumper, or goody 2 shoes. I wanted to be one of the guys the life of the party. I didn’t want people to stop talking when I entered the room or feel uncomfortable to be themselves.
However God had other plans and if you follow to part 3 I’ll explain the light. Than I’ll finish up with the grand conclusion.
