Now my work friends are gonna think OT means overtime because we work a lot of it. But this was an old fashion bait and hook. Get them to click and maybe they will stick around.
The OT I am referring to is the Old Testament. At the time of writing this I’m still working through the entire Bible for the first time. Let me be real for a second it is very hard to be motivated and focused while reading the Old Testament. Everyone I talk to says the same thing.
However I found a trick to make it exciting and keep my focus. It’s not a secret I heard it from my friend Greg and there are several books and sermons on it. It’s called the Scarlett Thread.
For those of you that don’t know, this is the pattern through the Old Testament that is usually marked with scarlet or red thread, cloth, blood, and other things that some believe are early signs of the Messiah aka Jesus Christ.
Now if you think of the Old Testament as a path that you are driving you need to set your destination to Jesus. The Bible is a record book of all of Gods works and promises and one of the biggest ones is in the Book of Isaiah where he says a messiah is coming, it will be a virgin birth, and he will be pierced for our transgressions. Not all in the same chapter but all in the same book.
But the fun part is, this wasn’t the first time a Messiah was mentioned or could be connected. It was also in Genesis 3:15 where he said he was gonna put an enmity between the serpents offspring and the woman’s offspring. His heel will be bruised but the serpents head will be bruised. This is basically saying the serpent aka sin will be destroyed because Eves offspring will be crucified and die and rise again.
The way we get to that is we need to go back to the original text in Hebrew the word “Shuph” is used. Translated this means bruised, strike, or crushed. Depending what Bible you read it may say one or the other. I believe in NIV it says “he will crush your head and you will strike his heal”. This is because if someone gets hit in the heel more than likely you can keep going. However if you get hit in the head that can be a devastating or life ending blow. So when you read it again with Jesus on the mind you come to the same conclusion so many people already have.
So back to the point. If we go even closer to the beginning Genesis 1:26 says “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness”. Who is God talking to could it be Him could he be referring to the Holy Trinity? Go read John 1:1-3, or Colossians 1:16-17, John 17:5, even Revelation 22:13 all say the same thing he was there in the beginning.
But see if you read Genesis without knowing the destination is Jesus then this will slip by. My favorite and I don’t think it’s a Scarlett Thread but read Proverb 8. This has to be my top Proverb because this is something that made me realize Jesus was searching for his lost sheep aka me. Not that it says that but this was read days before I fell to my knees and felt God calling me back. But when you read this keep Jesus on the mind and tell me Solomon isn’t describing Jesus when he talks about wisdom. The resemblance in the two is amazing.
Man, I can keep going on this but I’ll stop. But please check it out. Do your own research listen to some sermons. And definitely read your Bible and keep your destination set to Jesus and you will discover things that will blow your mind.
