Salt & Light pt. 1

It is only right thy I do a post about the verses that started me on my current path. Mathew 5:13-16

“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

These words don’t hit everyone like they did me but when you hear them while you are under conviction they punch you square in the jaw and it cripples you to your knees. It did me.

If you read my testimony you may remember the part about the salt and light of Jesus. This is the part in my story where I discussed how I lived several different lives. This is the part where I unveil the truth no matter how it makes me look because as a Christian I don’t hide my past I will let people know what I have done and what Jesus has helped me overcome. 2 Corinthians 12:9 says:

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

Let’s get to it.

I was the guy at work who liked to joke around and have fun. I used colorful language and said dirty jokes. Some so dirty that it even made some of the guys uncomfortable and trust me that’s saying something. But there were certain guys that I knew where religious and I would talk the talk with them.

At home I lived like a dictator. It always had to be my way and when I didn’t get my way I would cause an argument and make my wife cry (yes I was a you know what). I would be attached to my PS5 playing games like Call of Duty, Madden, and GTA. I neglected my husband and fatherly duties. I was definitely not leading my home like the Bible said I should. Around her family like a few guys at work I spoke about church and God. Told stories about what I learned at church or what my religious friends said.

However with my side of the family I still acted like an idiot who never grew out of my 20s with colorful language and anything else I wanted to do or say.

(I separated each example such as work, my wife, and my family to break it up. However I kept the part of my wife and her family together to show how quickly the light switch turned off and on for me. Unfortunately there were days that we were at each other’s throats but when we arrived at church or around her family I changed back to good ol’ boy Justin.)

Needless to say at this time in my walk my salt had lost its taste and my light was on a dimmer switch only came on if I was around the right people and it wasn’t always shining bright.

To be continued.

I’m gonna break this up into 3 or 4 parts so I don’t make it too long and maybe keep the interest. Next I will discuss verse 13 in depth and how it relates to me and my walk.
